General GC text recommendations

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

I have been asked to provide recommendations of a general GC text. Frankly, most of the books I have are way too specific. Any suggestions that are still available/in print?

Best regards.

For starters, I'd recommend the free downloads from an instrument supplier, eg Agilent's site has....
G1176-90000 = Agilent Gas Chromatographs - Fundamentals of Gas Chromatography ( 56 page pdf )
5958-9468 = GC Inlets, An Introduction ( 179 page pdf )
I couldn't find the equivalent detector book, but only searched their site for GC books, rather than subsections.

There are good general books available from some of the consumable suppliers ( and their free catalogs are also worth having ).

Most manufacturers will toss in a free copy of a suitable book when purchasing instruments, eg Agilent's old, but good, "High Resolution Gas Chromatography - 3rd edition " by Pat Sandra, which is still available to purchase for those not buying instruments.

I think we are almost at the stage where people will not buy general introduction books, but will go for free downloads. Once operating an instrument routine, I think Dean Rood's maintenance book is a good investment.

I hope this helps, and please keep having fun,

Bruce Hamilton
