Benzene in acetone

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Dear all,
I have to quantify benzene impurity in pure acetone; specification limit is "not more than 2 ppm". Can I reach this low level with a GC equiped with FID and Split/splitless injector ?
Any suggestion about possible method will be apreciated.
Thanks
GT
Dear GT,

Benzene is a good analyte for GC, specially with a FID. You can use the split mode without problems.

You can use this following method:

Column: DB-624 [Crosslinked 6% Polycyanopropylphenylsiloxane and
94% Polydimethylsiloxane (30m x 0,32mm x 1um)]
Carrier gás: He at 35cm/sec (~2.1mL/min)
Oven: 140oC by 20 min
Injector: Split (5:1)
Detector: FID at 240oC
==>> Rt of Benzene is 6.5min

Best regards,

Carlos Teixeira
