Hydrogen carrier gas for GCMS

With rising helium prices, what are peoples experiences with using hydrogen as a carrier for GCMS ssytems. I've heard various stories about safety, but is this really an issue with modern systems?

Also, I've heard that hydrogen can cause peak problems, and identification issues due to it reacting with gas phase molecules.

What are peoples opinions on this?

Wilky,

Take a look on the GCMS forum, there's a fairly long thread there already on this subject.
