Hi everyone,
i know its not the right place to put this topic as its related to LC but still i know someone somewhere will help me out.We have a FTIR pretige 21 , a brand new system cecently with pike miracle. The scanning range is from 750tp4000. but when i go through the USP, for qualitative analysis, we need to scan fom 650. So is it ok if i scan my sample from 750 to 3800? If not, then how can i increase the range ? i already contacted the vendor but their reply is pending. Please anybody can help me out.

The IRPrestige-21 in its standard configuration (ceramic light source/KBr beam splitter/DLATGS detector) has a spectral range of 7800 to 350 cm-1. Your biggest limitation is the type of material used for the ATR plate. The lower limits of various plates used in the Miracle ATR are shown below.

ZnSe 520cm-1
AMTIR 630cm-1
Germanium 575cm-1
Si/ZnSe 550cm-1
Diamond/ZnSe 525cm-1


I've mostly used the Pike Miracle ATR with a diamond/ZnSe plate and have had no problem scanning down to 525cm-1. It does get a bit noisy close to this limit because there's not much energy getting through.

In interests of full disclosure: then I'm mad at you "by proxy". Shimadzu telephone and E-mail help literally cut me off, refused to return calls or E-mails concerning communications issue with Shimadzu GC autosampler on an Agilent 5890 GC, the autosampler wouldn't communicate with ChemStation after a few years. So Shimadzu is on my sh*t list.
