sugars by gc

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

I'm told there exists a derivitization method for sugars so that they can be analyzed by gc. Might anyone know of this procedure and, if so, the specifics method?

Silylating reagents work nicely for sugars.

I suggest you call Sigma Chemical or Pierce Chemical and ask their technical service departments for literature and a choice of reagents.

Sweeley reagent composed of dry pyridine, hexamethyldilazane, and trimethylchlorosilane is a generic reagent for silylating sugars.

Of course, the devil is in the details which are unknown. Time to have a nice chat with technical service.
