FID installation questions

I have a GC 5890 Series II with an ECD and an NPD installed. I'd like to take the NPD out and replace it with an FID. How difficult would this be?
I'm taking the FID from a spare 5890 that I have.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's not all that hard, but it will probably take about half a day to do the work. I would take out the FID first, take plenty of pictures during the process, then just reverse the process to install on the other GC. If you could find a service manual that would help.

Bear in mind that you need to swap the fuel gas controls as well as the actual detector head. If you have all the panel cutouts already in place this is no worse than fiddly and tedious.

I don't think you need to change the flow controls. Both NPD and FID use the same fuel gases. If it were me, I would just cut the lines and splice the new ones in although I would make sure to keep track of the hydrogen and air lines so I don't mix them up.

An NPD uses a lot less hydrogen than an FID, and I'm not sure that the flow controls are not optimised for each detecter. Easy enough to check of course, just see of you can get 30 ml/min through the NPD hydrogen line.

The NPD also uses a lot less air, and there is a control for the bead current. I think the flow controller will need to be switched.
