G1313A blinking orange light

We experienced an unexpected power outage on Sunday night. We use a surge protector/backup system as this is not the first time the power's gone out.

Now the status light on the autosampler (Agilent G1313A, S/N: DE54901427) is blinking, and it does not communicate with ChemStation. All other modules work fine.

I powered off and unplugged the system, then restarted, but the problem persists.

A sequence was executed on Friday night, which (according to the logbook) completed successfully on Saturday morning and the instrument then (presumably) went into standby mode. So it seems like the power outage is the culprit here.

Any troubleshooting suggestions?

Take off the module cover; plug in and turn on. See if the fan is spinning. The modern stuff doesn't allow start up if the fan is bad (the older stuff waited for "an overheat" situation before shutting down. I've had this happen once or twice where shutoff of more than a few hours allowed the fan to cool down, and then have too much resistance to start up. On the autosampler, you do need to lift up the transport to get to the fan.

If you need a repair on the module, consider Agilent bench service - basically they fix anything that's bad for a set price, especially good value if you have no idea what's wrong.

I noticed that the fan did NOT turn start when I powered on the instrument.

I switched the autosampler fan (A) with a functioning fan (B) from the column compartment; (B) failed to start when I powered on the autosampler, (A) worked fine in the column compartment...so the fan is not the problem. The fan is connected through the ASM board...seems like that could be the problem there...

Problem solved, firmware needed to be reflashed.
