Hi, all -

My runs have been shutting down in the middle of the night for mysterious reasons. "Leak" errors (with no signs of leakage) and "error 41064." I've just turned off my windows auto-updates. (The only instrument we had this happen was on the one that allowed auto-updates.)

I'm assuming this will fix it, but I'm wondering if anybody's experienced the same thing.

If that does help, you may want to turn updates back on, but choose your update time (you can schedule these) carefully...

You did not say what version of ChemStation you are using.

As it has been suggested, set your Windows "auto-update" to NOT auto update, but rather allow you to manually update your system say every few weeks. (Their are a few rare Microsoft/Windows apps that can cause problems with some versions of ChemStation..e.g. '.NET framework Service Packs'). HOWEVER, this is unlikely to have anything to do with your problem of "LEAK" errors.

Once you have determined which revision of ChemStation you are using, then go online and take a look at the Software Status Bulletins (SSB) for your revision to see if any of the reported errors match up to the problems you are experiencing. Good Luck.

One more thought - The leak sensors are resistors that are supposed to be warm, a leak cools them, triggering the alert. The warmth of the resistor has been known to hide the evidence of small leaks, so you might not want to rule out a leak just yet...

It's been a week, and I haven't had any shutdowns. This is the longest stretch I've had without a shutdown, so I'm thinking it definitely WAS the auto-update. I think the computer restart confused chemstation, and since it didn't know what else to do, it just reported a leak alert.

DR, I don't think there's a small leak that I'm not noticing, as the pressure has been consistent.
