We want send Chemstation's result via Rs232. is it possible?

In your subject line you write about sending data files, in your text you write about results.
If you are trying to send data files, it sounds like you are trying to network a couple of PCs together.
then you need to create a null modem network cable

and then have software running on data acquisition PC to act as a server to send to the receiving PC that will be acting as the client.
you can program chemstation macro to signal the serve programme (eg by DDE) which directory to send automatically via the rs232.
I would strongly recommend getting an old Ethernet card and creating a LAN, that way you can use the windows explore software, and there is no issue of potentially corrupting your data via transmission.


If you are trying to send results, eg a name plus a concentration, then you can program chemstation to signal to the server program those results to send down the RS232.

Chemstation does not have any built in functionality to talk to comm ports directly, which is why you need the server software

If you want to know where to get the software, then you can write it yourself, or try and find one off the internet.

Thank you very much Alex. Those are very nice acquirements. I try save to data file another computer. I think i use network now, but i dont know this. i tried changing subdirectory (example : \\192.168.1.5\data)i am changing subdirectory on Configuration Editor->Configuration->Path) but i didnt it. I make a network drive on XP (z:\) and i tryied changing subdirectory again (z:\data) but nothing. i need help...

my suggestion, is to set-up the data directory on the data acquisition computer,
as the shared drive (you didn't state what windows you are running,
I'll assume windows 3.11 NT, as it has the networking capability, windows 3.1 does not), use file manager etc...

then on the XP system, in explorer, go to "tools", "map network drive" etc.

I tried in the past to directly save data onto a networked drive, but about
once a month I would come in and the the run had stopped, because
windows decided to disconnect the network connection. So what I did was
just copy all the data from the data acquisition PC, to the XP PC, then
deleted the files from the data acquisition PC, it is much more reliable to
do it this way I found.

Set-up on the Windows XP PC, a data backup programme, eg
SyncBack_Setup.exe, to copy across the data at 6.00am,
so that when you arrive, the data would be there waiting for you
when you arrived in the morning, so that you don't need to sit there
and wait until the data had copied across before doing your DA.
