7673 substitute

I have two gc's - agilent 5890 series 2 running on software G1701BA version b.01.00 and autosamplers 7673. Does anyone have experience with other than 7673 autosamplers working with this hardware/software configuration. IF so, I would like to know what other choices I have besides 7673 autosamplers.

You can upgrade to newer model HP/Agilent autosamplers.

7673C is most consistently used with 6890 GCs but I currently use a 7673C on a 5890 series 2 GC with the same software you are using. It is the next model/grade up from the 7673A. The price will be about 5 fold higher ($7000-8000) than the 7673A ($1000-1500) you might be using now. They look nice and they are newer.

7683 are the newest I am aware of and may or may not be compatible with your 5890.

Parts and service for older equipment generally increase in cost as they get older and closer to obsolescence. Depending on the condition of your current autosamplers, decide if the cost is worth it to you.

You can probably score another 7673A on labx.com for about $1500.

Have you tried sending them in for repairs? We send our broken ones into fullspectrum for repair, its much cheaper then buying new towers.

JH1 is correct, there are any number of people who can repair your current systems. At a minimum, I suspect they would be willing to discuss making 1,2, or 3 working systems out of the parts you have for about 5. If you send me an e-mail direct, I will recommend at least 3 different vendors that would be willing to discuss this with you. Based on that knowledge, I'm still buying the 7673 for the people I work with....

Regarding substitutes. I know for a fact that Cobra sells an autosampler that "speaks" Chemstation. This is a linear rail system that gets it's queue from Chemstation. I am not sure about others but I suspect many do since this is a common question.

i spent 4500 last year getting my towers and one carousel fixed and now can't ge rtone system out of the lot

towers. some controllers, one of the carousels. Just trying to minimize our hassles. University lab and we go between so many technologies, to have to almost constantly repair and then have samples with limited shelf lives, a hair-puller.

There is a new tray and tower from Agilent that should start shipping within about a month.
