Waters Alliance with Brand X Data System?

Hi -

Can I collect data from my Waters Alliance using another vendor's software? We don't have BusL/ACE cards in our computers, so can we use a LAN cable and someone else's software to collect data, then just operate the Alliance using the front panel controls?

Any tips appreciated!

You can probably do this, but not via ethernet connections. Waters detectors have a terminal block i/o for up to 2V(adjustable, I think) analog output, remote start, ready cable etc. - everything needed to run typical analog signals out to any typical CDS.

This all presumes you are not talking about MSD or PDA detectors...

Thanks, DR. So, I would just control my run from the front panel of the Alliance then, right?

There are other software suppliers whose software is able to control alliance modules fully. Check with people like Dionex (Chromeleon). They should also be able to advise on what interface hardware is necessary.

^ what he said - - - and yes, if you don't have instrument control options with your CDS, you would just run the Alliance from its panel and the CDS would just collect the analog data upon each "Start" signal.

Hi
I have been controlling nine Waters Alliance with Chromeleon for many (six?) years. I'm using National Instruments USB-GPIB (with the latest drivers). Both Chromeleon and the USB-GPIB converters are recommended.

Thanks, all.

As you may have guessed, I'm trying to do this on the cheap. Any recommendations for cheap/used interfaces and software? At this point, I'm even considering tracking down an old integrator. I just want to make a few runs ... I don't want to spend much money to do it.
