Antibiotic detection

Does anybody have experience in detecting antibiotics, especially the recent hot ones like chloramphenicol and nitrofurans in seafood and honey?
When you try to detect these antibiotics, what are the general problems, such as purification/extraction, sepearation, decision to use GC, GCMS, GCMSMS or? Which method is preferable?
What is the newest technology in chromatography? :)
