Hi everybody,

We have a GC. It cannot run in splitless mode. If It running in split mode, sensitity is very low. Now, I'm using ratio split 30:1. I want to decrease split ratio, I wonder how many minimum ratio split which I can apply for my GC is?

Thank for any reply.

The answer depends on your column diameter somewhat. I've used splits from 100:1 to 10:1. Try it, see if it works for you, then it's OK. I'll assume you're using make-up gas and FID.

I understand that split ration 1:10 means 10part of samples goes out from vent and only one part of sample load on column so column loading will be less. peak symmetry good or sharp peak, quantification is acurate but what is the advantage of ratio 100:1 ?

One advantage of 100:1 is that you are injecting 1/10th of any "crud" or "undesirables" down your column than with 10:1 - so your column may last longer.

Why can your GC not run in splitless mode?
Have you not got the correct liner?
Is there a property of your sample which prevents this?
