We're in the market for a UPLC, we are a small lab and will be getting one maybe two at most. I have heard of rumblings that Water will be introducing a new UPLC other than the Aquity. As a small lab that doesn't buy many LC's a year I would like to make sure I have the latest, as it will need to last for many years. Does anyone know it it's true?

Generally the manufacturers like to introduce products in PITTCON (or ASMS for nanoLC and mass spectrometers). If they do not introduce anything next month (in ASMS), I wouldn't expect them to introduce anything until March 2010. How much are you willing to wait?

Generally speaking, manufacturers are very careful not to leak information like that, for the very same reason you inquire; people stop buying waiting for the new model to come out...

i actually heard that from an Agilent salesman. he claims that there is a 1400 system due to come by next month with a higher pressure limit which will be more UHPLC then RRLC

Kostas obviously didn't get the unsolicited ( and subsequently deleted ) email that appeared in my inbox a couple of weeks ago, promoting the impending ( Apr-May? ) announcement of a new, superior UHPLC, but no mention of brand.

I did a quick whois on the website, but it didn't link to an obvious brand, so I deleted the lot. I suspected that it was Agilent, as I use their toys, and my relationship with current local agents of Waters has never been particularly strong, so I wouldn't expect to be on their mailing list. Could even be one of the other brands.

The Agilent 1200 is a warmed over 1100, so a new instrument is to be expected sometime soon, given the success of the UPLC and it's bros.

Naturally, having promoted the site here, I now expect at least one instrument free, along with a lifetime's supply of consumables.

To the original poster, I'd be very wary of purchasing such a new beast as a critical piece of equipment, unless you have excellent backup support...

It took more than 10 years to go from 1050 to 1200 so probably they will go with 1250, unless they want to imply that the new LC will be generations ahead...
