Which hydrolic fluid for high pressure pump?

Hi,
I am looking for a hydrolic fluid for the high pressure pump of Hewlett Packard 1090 HPLC. The original fluid has the part-number 01010-80002 and costs 21 Euro for 100ml. Does anyone know what special characteristics are needed for this oil? I would prefer larger fillings. Can I use other brands? Or is it not interesting looking for an alternative?

You need not fill anything w/ this oil - it is a surface lubricant and 100mL should last the life of the instrument. Buy it.

Hi DR,
after replacing the Diaphragm for example I have to refill the pump with oil. As we have more than 20 HPLC 1090 in our department, I would like to have a stock of fluid. I have already the Agilent oil, but want to buy higher quantities (perhaps a bottle of 200 or 500ml). The question is just if I can use other hydraulic oil and which one.

I would hesitate to use a different oil. The oil has specific properties which lead the manufacturer to specify this lubricant. If you use a different lubricant which is cheaper and you end up causing major damage to a pump you haven't saved anything in the long run. Talk to Agilent and see if you can get a price discount on a larger quantity of the oil.

Okay - having looked, there's a diaphragm pump reservoir that needs annual refilling w/ oil - the manual says to use only HP part ... - so I'd have to agree w/ Ron. Use their oil (which may be cheaper if larger containers are available) unless you have the word of an Agilent employee that they use Wal-Mart 5W-30 or something like that. Please pardon my previous ignorance. We have several Agilent systems, but I've never had to yank a cover on one, I just do the "front ends".
