Can one internal standard be used for multiple compoounds?

I am performing a GC analysis to quantitate multiple alcohols and a few other solvents.

Is it okay to use one internal standard for all of the standard compounds? Also what traits do you look for when choosing an internal standard?

It is common to have an internal standard for multiple target analytes.
Internal standards shouldn't interfere with the quantitation of target analytes nor should it be reasonably expected to occur in the samples naturally.
In mass spec methods labeled isotopes are common.
