GC/MS analysis

				Hello,
I have a mixture of Isopropanol, methanol and ethanol with metal salts.
What the best way of analyse is on a GC/MS.
On the internet the most analysis are from product with a huge matrix.

				First of all, get the metals out. 
Second of all, is there a compelling reason why this has to be done by GC-MS, or will some other detector work? Something like an FID seems viable, especially since you know the identity of your components. 
Typically, for a chromatography sample, you would dissolve your anaytes in a solvent. For the sake of your GC-MS, you typically don't turn it on until the solvent has come off the column. The problem is that methanol and ethanol are both common solvents for this purpose, and depending on conditions and column chemistry can either be completely non-retained or poorly separated. 
One trick I have used in the past for low boiling analytes is to dissolve them in a high boiling solvent(toluene would probably work in your case, although DMF and DMSO are viable also) and turning the MS off before that solvent elutes. 
Your life would be a lot easier with an FID...

				Thank you for the reply.
We have a method for the GC-FID.
The docent ask us to look for a GC/MS analysis for control.
The metal are metal salts. This is maybe not clear in my last post.
Is there a method where I don't turn of the MS?
