API of lactams

Greetings,
I'm trying to analyze a compound using LC-MS/MS whose main functional group is a lactam. There is really no other functionality on the molecule, other than a trifluoro methyl. It is very hydrophobic, logP~5.75, and so I tried APCI. No luck, so I then tried ESI, and again very little signal. I've been using positive mode, since it doesn't seem likely that I can abstract a proton from this molecule and thus I haven't tried neg mode. Has anyone had luck with any mobile phase additives or derivatizations for this? Any suggestions with how to get this to ionize? Many thanks,
Chris
