Dionex vs Metrohm IC system

Hi everyone

We are looking to buy a new IC system soon so I am asking if anyone has any opinions on either of these companies? We have used Dionex IC equipment in the past and it worked well for us, but we found we often had to replace the supressor, which are expensive. The 10 year warranty that comes with Metrohm supressors therefore seems appealing. We haven't previously had a service contract with Dionex so it is difficult to assess their level of support (we are in the UK), but we will get a service contract with the new system.

Having had discussions with the 2 companies, Dionex are stressing that their columns are the best (and that a robust column is most important for IC), whilst Metrohm are saying they have the best pumps and detectors (hence less reliance on supressor technology).

We are interested in measuring anions and cations in soil water, so humic loading on the column may be a problem.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Hello Tim. I have seen working Metrohm IC in a collegue lab; works pretty well and they have a dialysis sistem for analysis of anions in sauces; they only dilute and centrifuge the sample and that's it.
