Rapid resolution HPLC pump

Can anyone explain to me why an Agilent 1200 RRLC system sustains higher pressure than an 1100?

I do not know what are the exact modifications but for sure they must have upgraded the injection valve and made general improvements in their autosampler...

Could you please clarify?.

Do you mean that for the same mobile phase flow, the system pressure is higher - if so that's probably due to using narrower bore components intended to reduce the 1200's internal volume.

If you meant, why can 1200 safely pump to a higher pressure, as noted by Kostas, that's due to the redesign necessary to compete with the Waters UPLC and similar high pressure instruments. Basically lower internal volumes, more accurate low flow settings, higher pumping pressure etc.

I wouldn't consider the Agilent 1200 (max pressure: 600 bar) an equal to the Waters UPLC (max pressure 1000 bar)...
