New to GC-FID

So maybe this should be under "Student Projects," but it's specifically about GC-FID, so I stuck it here.
Basically I'm trying to feel my way through how to use a GC-FID, using what manuals and books I can find (my advisor wants me to work in his lab for him).
I figured a good place to start would be running samples of methane. I did this seemingly successfully, but to my surprise I got two peaks. The carrier gas is Helium, and there is Hydrogen and HCF air supplying the FID. The FID temperature was low enough that no hydrocarbons should be forming. Is there anything that this could obviously be?
Also, how can I back out how much methane went past the FID from the area on the chromatogram?
Thanks.
