Cleaning FID

Hi
Can I remove the column from the oven and heat the FID?
I want to heat the FID to clean its up.
What safety precautions do I do?

If you install a blank ferrule ( one with no hole in the center) you can run the FID just as if a column is installed. You may need to increase the makeup gas flow to compensate for the missing column flow if it doesn't ignite easily.

I'd plumb a length of stainless steel tubing and keep some carrier gas flowing ! Notice the bold !

FID is not an ECD to termally clean it.
Just dismantle your FID and clean parts with solvents (you may need a brush in case of more difficult dirts).

dblux's approach is the best. The FID is easy to take apart and truly clean with solvents and sonic baths. I'd go that route if I'm you.
