Dear all,

are there any experiences with HPLC columns designed for the use with high pH mobile phases? Could anybody recommend a good one meaning one with a good column lifetime?

Thank you for every recoommendation

Regards

Florian

We (Waters) have testing data on the stability of our XBridge family of columns compared to other packings. You can find the data in our catalogue, for example.

I don't have a wealth of experience with other columns but our Waters MS-XTerra C18 has been around for quite a while...and it still works great. We use that at pH=8 for oligonucleotide analysis.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

You can use Atlantis T3 of waters for High pH range . Supelco also design some columns with Zr based which can used at high pH range.
But at the high pH range I thing waters has large choice.

No Atlantis T3 can not be used at high pH. It has excellent stability properties at low pH, but this was not the question. The XTerra family and the XBridge family can be used at high pH. The XBridge family has the much better stability under high-pH conditions. The reason is that both are based on hybrid materials, while Atlantis is based on silica.

Dear all,

thank you very much for your advice. I am going to order now..

Have you tried the Zorbax Extend C-18 column ? I quote from the internet:-
"Zorbax Extend-C18 columns incorporate a unique patented bidentate silane, combined with a double-endcapping process that protects the silica from dissolution at high pH - up to pH 11.5. columns are best applied for separations of compounds that are either
(1) basic and have little or no retention at low or intermediate pHs,
(2) more stable or more soluble at high pH, or
(3) basic and show poor peak shape at low or intermediate pH. "

Cheers !! :D
