Shimadzu AOC-20i GC autosampler

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

This time I'm asking for help. Does anyone have a Shimadzu AOC-20i GC autosampler connected to an Agilent 5890 with Chemstation? I need to know if the Chemstation software totally controls it just like it did with the Agilent autosamplers (like how many microliters, pumps, washes, etc.). Thanks.

There are some differences, as the command sets for the two autosamplers are different. The AOC-20 has some functions the 7673 doesn't and vice versa. These differences should be covered in the manual.
Hi,
I just wonder, why do you use Shimadzu auto sampler on Agilent GC? I am looking for a GC/MS for flavor analysis and couldn't decide between Shimadzu and Agilent. Which one would you recommend. Thanks,
Serhan

Rendes,

Let me help muddy the waters here. We just bought a new Agilent GC-MS system and we use a LEAP autosampler system. We like this because of its flexibility, we have added the headspace option and will probably addf the SPME (solid phase microextraction) option later. Seems to be a very solid and very versatile injector.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I think you may add the headspace or the SPME later on every system, this obtion does not exist only in Agilent. Please correct me! By the way, how did you like your Agilent GC/Ms? Is it 5973? What are you running on this instrument? How did you like it- instrument- service- training? Thanks,
rendes

The Agilent GC autosamplers A and B versions are out of support and the C versions soon will follow. That's why Shimadzu has stepped in to fill this niche market.

Rendes, you can add the headspace or SPME to any CTC CombiPAL autosampler. There is a less expensive version, the GCPAL, which is not upgradeable to heated headspace or heated SPME. I know you can do unheated SPME out of the tray of a GCPAL, but I am not sure if headspace is an option.

Back to the original subject, did you ever find the information you needed? If you haven't there are a couple of phone numbers I can pass along to you.
Dear Consumer Products Guy,

you already helped me with your comments many times, let me point you to the right guys.
There is a company in Luisianna called Horizon (www.horizon2.com). They made some type of converterbox (Diplomat), so that they can make the Shimadzu act like an Agilent 7673. This also works for some other autosamplers, but I don't know which ones.

As to the CTC PAL autosampler for liquid, headspace, SPME & thermal desorption, you have several distributors such as CHROMSYS, LEAP Technologies, Varian, Waters, Gerstel, Brechbuehler, Cohesive, AC Control etc.
