Column equivalent

Hi everyone,

does anyone have an equivalent to the following HPLC column:

Xterra C8... ???

I don't have it in my lab so I am looking for something quite similar.

Depending on your application, any other C8 column from any manufacturer would probably be a reasonable replacement, worth trying if you happen to have one. Phenomenex have useful tables in their catalogue describing replacement columns similar to those of other manufacturers. Waters columns are usually pretty good, so don't expect nice results if you find an ancient and poorly treated C8 laying around in a drawer. Good luck!

It depends on what you are trying to do. If you need to copy a method that has been developed on XTerra C8, you will not readily be able to duplicate it on another C8. If you need to run an application at high pH, you have very, very few options: XTerra or XBridge, with XBridge having the highest stability under alkaline conditions. Silica-based columns are not a substitute for these conditions.

Thanks everyone for your answers, i am trying to separate 2 pics at beginning of the chromatogram...at this time I am using an X-Terra RP 18 and I don't have an X-Terra C8 so I was looking for an equivalent...

If you need high pH, there are a few others out there, such as Phenomenex's Gemini, but it isn't the same as Xbridge, and I don't think they make a C8 version.

But why are you looking for a C8 column; I assume your C18 is not doing the job? Is there any other characteristic of the analyte that might help peak separation? For instance, consider phenyl phases if it has any aromaticity. If your analytes are coming out really at the beginning of the chromatogram in C18, are they too hydrophilic? Is it worth looking at hilic methods?
