Thanks Ron. That's the direction I was leaning. I think you just pushed me over the line. The discrete dynode EM costs about $200 more than the cheapest channeltron that I can find (and about $400 less than the upper end of the range). All it would take would be a few extra months of life to make up the difference.

Hi Don, you may want to take a look at http://csa-service.com/store/ they are contracted by Agilent to provide service/qualifications on 5890s and Agilent sold them everything they had as far as official 5890 parts.
DCM, deionized water/HPLC water, hexane, and methanol are great for source cleaning. I would do your last rinse in methanol as it is miscible with any remaining water and has minimal evaporative residue.
