This is starting to sound like my torture trying to connect to a Varian 3900 with Galaxie.

I think what ASM is proposing is this. Take your PC and connect it to another PC (off any network) that you also
the IP address yourself (say .105). Then you should see a connection. If you don't then your NIC card is
bad. If you do, then do the ip config to confirm that you can ping both the other and the Chemstation
PC's. If you can do that, then move your cable over to the GC again and see if you can ping the GC.

Is this on a true XP or is this on an XP shell under Win 7?

I did that and I do see a connection, so I'm confident that the NIC card works. Also tried another cable so I doubt it's a cable issue. It's a true XP btw.

I'm more inclined to believe something is wrong with the GC card.

Okay, so did you catch the comment by Freek Varossieau about how it may have defaulted? Now set your IP address on your computer to subnet 255.255.255.0 and set your computer IP address to 168.192.254.101 and see if you can ping the GC. This puts both the computer and the GC on the same subnet and IP. Then ping again.

What needs to be clear is that Agilent delivered in the past a Jetdirect card in the old GC's. This card can be recognised by the fact that it also has a BNC connector next to a normal RJ45 LAN connection. This card can only get its IP address by BootP (so I was told).
The newer network cards (G1369A/B/C) behave like normal computer network cards and can have their IP address set to a fixed IP address using telnet and a procedure described in the G1369x documentation. If you do not have it I can provide it through PM.

I believe I must have one of the newer network cards.

BootP won't work with the LAN card I'm using. This is an isolated configuration by the way.

Oh, and AICMM I did try your suggestions for using the default IP address on the PC, but that didn't work. Besides, I can clearly see the IP address of the GC when I hold down the LOAD button while restarting the GC. With the testing I've done, I've found the following things:

1) The NIC card of the PC receives a signal when plugged into the company's network. Therefore, it works.

2) The NIC card of the PC does not receive a signal when plugged into the network card of the GC. This was attempted using a second PC which also produced no signal.

3) The crossover cable was replaced, but it had no effect. Therefore, it's not likely to be a cable issue.

4) The IP address of the GC (10.1.1.101) corresponds to the IP address of the PC Network Card (10.1.1.100), differing only by one number. This has no effect.

At this point, I don't know what other conclusion to draw other than a hardware issue with the GC that is causing no signal.

Just a final update here. The GC is now working properly. The problem was the LAN card in the GC.

An Agilent servicer came by, confirmed there was no signal going from the GC to the PC. He replaced the card (it cost over $1000 unfortunately) and as soon as he did and plugged it in, it started working.

Thanks to all who offered advice. Although I wasn't able to fix it on my own, it did help me learn about how the GC is set up!
