Do you folks think the HCL generation is restricted to the MS detector? I use hydrogen for our FID work; the solvent is methylene chloride. I have not noticed any unusual corrosion issues there; though the FID can take a great deal of abuse.

I believe it is due to the ionization of H2 from the filament. Since this does not occur in non-MS detectors it's not a problem.
