Since we are on that topic, I thought I might ask. Does anyone have experience with Waters GCT Premier? I am wondering about its performance and reliability as well as customer support.

Non representative spectra. When working for Thermo I had both GCQ and Trace/MS to sell. Both offered good sensivity for explosives and could library search. However where the end user was in Forensics the choice was always Quad as the spectra for Ion traps were different to quads and the quad spectra was the legally accepted reference. It was explained that in court you had to be able to state absolutes and just the existance of some non representative data existing on any Ion traps could be enough for a defense lawyer to claim reasonable doubt. Use of data from any alternative source , TOF or Ion trap would require additional proof to create a legal precidence of the new technique. Quadrupole data and library spectra is well established everywhere and should not be challenged.

For many explosives LCMS is a better way to go than GCMS. Many explosives can decompose in a GC system, and tend to be more stable in an LC.
