Hi Adam

The problem with keeping the flame lit with 450 ml/min of air suggests something not right with the flows in the detector. Check the following: no obstructions in the flame tip and that the end of the column is not actually through the hole in the tip, that the flame tip is properly seated in the injector base, and that the gas supplies are connected to the right pipes - you might be putting air through the jet or something.

Hi All,

Many thanks for all your help and suggestions. Hopefully I am on the way to getting this fixed.
I reinstalled the column and fitted a new fid jet. I now can get the fid detector to stay lit at an air flow of 400 ml/sec.

I now get a response of 10s of thousands of millivolts to the solvent peak, and my peak shape no longer tails.
