Hey Joe,

Check out these Agilent links to perform inlet cleaning. Note that your setup allows to just disconnect the inlet end and put the system in backflush mode without capping the column or something.

You seem to get rid of the septum particles, but there can be more that's stuck somewhere in the column which you don't see...

It would help to know which solution exactly was injected by the student.

Thanks for the links provided in your last message, they have been very useful.

I have found out that the student made two injections, both of which were hexane solvent blanks using a 10 ul large bore syringe - although they insist they only injected 1 ul.
