Has to be worth a try Korffski (as long as the column will stand it). If you do try it please post whether it works.

keep the column oven normal as per method only increase FID temperature, so no chance of damage to column..

Taking the detector temperature much above the column maximum can generate activity in the part of the column that is heated by the detector block.

All,

The thermal cleaning seems to have worked. Ran the system for about 4 hours after baking and the noise hasn't come back.
