It is my understanding that gassing is done via roaring bubble for 5 min, followed by a slight positive pressure of helium is sufficient.

given the future of helium availability, we may not always have this luxury anyway

Don't degass haxane.
I garantee you no air related problems.

Maybe an improper compressibility setting in the pump control is the reason?
