So I can't resist asking. If Chromelean is easier to use, what would cause you to give a slight edge to Empower.
I first learned on Millennium (previous version of Empower). I then spent 6 years using it. During that time I became very fluent in how to use it. One thing that I really did like was that the instrument methods were separate from the processing methods (offhand I can't remember if this is the case with Chromeleon). It was no doubt a struggle to learn, and parts of it were not very intuitive. Once learned, the power level that it provided was very nice.
I used Chromeleon only for about 9 months. In that 9 months, I was as far along in my familiarity of the software as I was after probably 3 years of Empower. The learning curve was much faster for Chromeleon.
Personally, I still have a higher proficiency level with Empower, that's why for personal use I'd choose it. I'd much rather train someone on software with the shorter learning curve though.
