Formic acid will have no response on FID, so you need to use PDD or TCD
Analysis is possible on thickest film PDMS, You can use 7 microns Rtx-1 on 0.53mm

I used to do both formic and acetic by HPLC on a Hypercarb column using UV detection. I believe the eluent was 0.1% phosphoric acid.
