Peter, you would lose the bet.

My first year out of college, I was measureing something that was 499 mL, I measured out 500 mL with a graduated cylinder and removed 1.0 mL with a pipet, I was clueless at the time, and thought I was being ingenius.

Dammit ! - but the unsporting pedant in me has to point out that lmh referred to 900 ml, and that someone is doing it now. And he never came back with the odds.

And I would add that you were nowhere near as clueless as the person that gave the instructions.

Peter, I was rather relying on the original poster admitting that they had considered preparing 899mL that way. The Pedant in you wins the bet, but I'm still grinning smugly that the principle is proven! I'd never admit to having done something so daft myself, of course...

My apologies Peter for the misreference to you. I was hasty and I'll admit curious as to why you wanted the one million chocolate bars, so your name was on my mind.

I could sell them on an internet auction site

Anyway, lmh has one the bet on principal, so I owe him a chocolate bar - in principal.
