for MS there are triple filters available from different vendors: combination of 3 materials for removing oxygen, water and hydrocarbon impurities. The indicators usually only work for water and oxygen and you should not be color-blind (15% of males is (:)). I would position the filters in front of the targeted GC-MS and make sure there is always a positive flow.

Thank you all for help on this matter, I found big leaks in the fittings in the gas line (near the tank).

The trap I'm using is a big metal one, I could not see the color change, I'll purchase the clear tube with three sorbents in.
