I'm going to try tweaking that process that gave me those insignificant, tiny peaks...see if that helps me get some actual separation between the compounds.

Those peaks come out quite fast. Your flow and ramp rates may be a little high.
I would suggest that you do an injection starting at 40 for one min. Then ramp the oven at 10- 12 degrees /min. just to see if you get separation. When you see the correct number of peaks you can then take steps to shorten the run time.
