Interface card not active errors normally come from addressing issues. You have to manually set the address on the SmartCard. Also, if you are trying to use a PCI interface card in the computer you are going to have issues.

The last rev of software that worked well was A.02. You can run it under Windows 98SE or under Win 2000, but only with the SmartCard II. If you have the SmartCard I you are stuck running Windows 3.1, and I don't even know where you'd get a rev of software that would work.

You need to have an ISA interface card; for whatever reason the PCI cards just didn't ever work well with the 5970. You should set your ISA card to address 7. The MS likes to be at address 20.

Make sure your configuration file is correct!

We've been running 5970s for a long, long time. If you take the time to learn the box it is quite a nice MS. We have run into some interesting hardware issues (can't find certain components any more) but we've managed to keep them running since the early '90s.

Does anyone have the turbo pump vent tool for the HP 5970?

I just use the points of a blunt pair of beavertooth forceps I have.

Any decent machinist should be able to make one, given the diameter of the orifice and a rough idea as to the depth the vent needs to be depressed.
