I think the acetonitrile shortage crisis is over..... market acetonitrile is in abundant supply.

And I thought MY computer was slow !!!!

The acetonitrile shortage is known for more than half a year. In June Sigma-Aldrich was already giving seminars to explain what options chromatographist have/had. The price has increased in a year 10 times...at least in Sweden...so I guess this is the result of ACN shortage

Here in U.S. we first got word of an ACN shortage in fall 2008. Since we were already an ACN user, our vendor could allocate for us 2 cases, more than enough for a year for our R&D department. However, at production and contract manufacturers, more ACN is used; we therefore developed and validated ACN-free test methodology for most of our pharmaceutical assays. Our vendor told us that extremely few of his companies customers were taking that approach, that we were the only ones he could verify being pro-active. Their other customers apparently just closed their eyes and just hoped the issue would resolve itself.

I do wonder if some larger pharmaceutical companies heard about this even earlier, and hoarded a bunch of ACN, making the "shortage" worse or even causing it to happen......

Hmmm, no no no, absolutly not!! Unthinkable!!!

Anyhow, the ACN shortage is over, at leat in Sweden. Several vendors have normal prices. If your vendor still asks for a high prioce, ask another!

My company offers a protocol where Acetonitrile is eliminated and Methanol is substituted. Please contact myself or someone in your area from Sepax Technologies on our contact page to have us shoot you that method.
