Hi, I'm a 4th year undergraduate at UCSD working in a medical lab and I am having some serious trouble with the analyzation of our product. We make and purify a certain kind of cyanoacrylate, and for some reason, whenever I run it through the GC (an HP 5890) to check the purification, I get a large baseline shift about half-way through the run.
What I don't understand is that I get some beautiful peaks for our solvent (methylene chloride) and and a cyanoacetate of similar form of the cyanoacrylate. It is only with the cyanoacrylate that I get this odd baseline shift! Do you suppose it has to do with the adhesiveness of the product? Or is there any other explanation that I'm only having trouble with this particular chemical, and with no others?
I would appreciate any help you could provide. This has been irking me for the longest time now and I just can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Robin :)
