Syringe Error

Basic questions from students; resources for projects and reports.

I am having problems with the HP 7673 Automatic Sampler. Orginally the syringe would sample the solvent washes and finally the actual sample, however the needle would bend during injection. After realigning the varius parts of the injector I was able to get a proper injection without bending the syringe. But now a new error has popped up saying "Syringe Error." I am not sure what is the problem. The syringe seems to be sampling and injecting properly and I have already replaced the syringe. So if anyone has any suggestions or knowledge of an online troubleshooting manual for this automatic sampler I would be very grateful. I have done quite a few web searches, reread all my manuals, and checked out the historical postings, but I have yet to find anything that has helped.
Thank you!
Sarah

When you get a syringe error, there should be an indicator of the type of error from the injection tower or controller module. Check the status lights on the tower and controller. The type of error is indicated by the color of the light or the sequence of flashes of the red light on the injector and the color of the light on the controller module. What are these indicators?
Fault light blinks red twice. According to the manual it indicates a Syringe carriage out of position or syringe carriage sensor inoperable. I double checked the sensor and cleaned off the small magnetic piece at the bottom of the vial holder on the turret. So I suspect the problem is with the alignment of the needle and its holder, because the needle has been clipping the southern side of the metal cap on the sample vials. Unfortunately, since this is such an old machine I have not been able to locate a service manual or gain any help from Agilent and seeing as I am on a graduate budget I can not afford to hire tech support to come out and tinker with the sampler.

I have found that the Agilent website contains most of the necessary manuals for their instruments in PDF format.
