I am injecting Methanol into an HP-FFAP column and having major problems with peak tailing when the methanol exits the column. I tried re-installing the column but to no avail. My thought now is that I might be trying to use an incorrect injection port. I think my GC has a packed injector port (which does not have a glass liner) How much of a problem is this? I know my column is capillary, but I don't have any packed columns that will do this separation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You might try putting a little silanized quartz wool in the injector and increase the injector temp if you can. If you can improvise a split flow that may help also.

kbrodw01,
What column dimensions? If you are trying to run a capillary column in a packed port injector, you will want to use a megabore column. Also, a glass insert would be a really good idea here since the methanol is likely to react with hot metal surfaces. There are also glass adapters that you can put in packed column ports that will adapt a megabore column quite well. If you are interested I can send you that way.
Best regards.
