Fault: Detector B Temp Reading (pictures included!)

I'm (still) trying to salvage an HP5890 Series II Plus:

I'm getting a fault with the detector temp and I think there's a short in the sensor:

If this is moved:


Then this happens:





How do I replace the temperature sensor? I'm sure I have to, but are the connections meant to be removed from here?


I couldn't get the connections out, and wasn't sure if they were permanent in there or what.

Still a rookie, but I'm trying!

There is a special tool to remove the pins. It's been too long, I don't remember who made the connectors and pins, but if there is a large electronics suppy firm in your area they may recognize the connector and be able to get the tool you need.

The tool is called an AMP pin extraction tool, we have one. I don't know if Agilent still sells it, had part number 8710-1542. I think a paper clip can also work to do this.

Don't think you can get a thermocouplr from Agilent . Alpha Omega can help you. They may also have the tool.
I've used paper clips or a small screwdriver to remove the connectors.

Tyco/AMP 305183 can get them from Newark.

Can do it with a piece of Tekmar trap but it is a bear, well worth the $13 or so that you would spend with Newark.

By the way, the part you are holding is the heater connector, not the RTD. The RTD is on the little black amp connector and there you can use a screwdriver.

Replacement parts for heater and RTD are available from Restek.
