Help pick best data system...

We are going to me upgradeing our data system soon. We are running a the following systems

1) First system

Waters 717 plus Autosampler
Waters 600 Controller
Waters Temperature Control Module
Waters 996 Photodiode Array Detector


2) Second system

Waters 717 plus Autosampler
Waters 600 Controller
Waters Temperature Control Module
Waters 486 Detector
Waters 474 Scanning Fluorescence Detector
Waters Carbamate Analysis System

We have waters communication boxes for both systems. We will probably be getting a CE in the near future too. Ideally I would like one box to run all three systems. But if that is not really an option, we will do 1 machine 1 box.


I have experience with millennium, but really found it lacking. We are looking to buy a used computer with a DCS installed, but I am unsure which package to go after.

Both machines are dedicated to a single but different method. Reliability is a big concern.


All input is greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, you will have problems to find chromatographic software that supports those old instruments.

Maybe Chromeleon supports all your LC devices, but Chromeleon does not suppport CE.

Waters Empower for intance does not support those old samplers.
I don't know about Agilent EZChrom, check it!

thats funny because one rep told me empower would work....I am always wary when people try to push something too hard.

CE support is the bottom priority. Chromeleon was my first choice, but its hard to find a list of supported devices for the data packages. Does anyone know of a good source for this information?


Maybe we just stay with millennium. Grrrr.

And the spec shet for the 600 and the 996 say empower compatible too...

we are running

a Waters 600, 717+, 996 PDA, 410RI -system on Empower2 without any problems. A second Waters system Alliance with 2996PDA runs on the same PC simultaneously (deepend on your software license)

All of you instruments are supported in Empower ans Empower2, maybe the firmware update is requested for some instruments.
