Varian Galaxie, Waters EMpoweror Agilent 1100 ??

Discussions about HPLC, CE, TLC, SFC, and other "liquid phase" separation techniques.

We are in the process of choosing a new HPLC. Currently we own several Waters 2695 systems (with DAD, Millenium/Empower).

We can choose a new waters system or a Varian Galaxie system or an Agilent 1100.
If all of these were the same price we would choose Waters as everyone is trained up to use this. However we are a charity funded organisation and the Varian System is £7000 cheaper and the Agilent is approximately £10,000 cheaper.

Lots of money! however in the long run is this worth it?

Does anyone have any ideas on this? - its a difficult one.

Thanks

We've got an Agilent 1100 LC/MS since 4 years, it's a very good machine, the Hotline is very efficient and quick, the module conception is interesting because of the "standard exchange" you can do if an important shutdown occurs (shipped under 48h).
We'v got also an LC Prep Agilent 1100 which is very good too.
So as i saw it was the cheaper machine, you can trust me, it's a very good choice.
You can contact me if you want more details.

Waters has lower-cost options as well. Talk to your sales rep about the Breeze system.

I don't know much about the Breeze. I would guess that it is about the same price as the 1100 with autosampler while the Breeze is manual injection. Maybe that would be fine for your facility. If you have workers who want to continue careers in the laboratory I always look for people who know both Chemstation (Agilent) and Millenium (Waters) when hiring people in the lab.

I was always wondering at such way of hiring.
For example, I'm a professional and rather well-known (in my country)separation scientist. I worked on many LC devices you never heard of.
But I have not ever seen Waters workstation. I saw Agilent one, but never used it by myself (its a job of technician).
So, I'm nearly an idiot following your criteria... :)
