2-chloropropane by FID?

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

I realize the ECD would be best for alkylhalides, but we don't have one and installation of one we'd likely only use sparingly is very costly. Does anyone know (before I waste time trying) if 2-chloropropane is easily detected by FID at ppm levels?

Thanks
Leevis

I have my answer, thanks

BTW, Radish, to find a column, preprare samples, and develop a method for a compound I have never tried before would be time consuming for a novice. Besides this is planned for the future, not at the moment, at least now I know it is feasible and not hopeless as I suspected.

Leevis, It should have taken you about 10 minutes to determine if FID can detect your compound. You have wasted more time by posting to this forum and waiting for a reply.

Dear Radish,

It is possible analyse your compound by FID detection at ppm level, it is easy!!!

Have a good day.

Sorry Leevis. I misunderstood your situation!

However, I would just like to point out that although you know you can use the FID for your compound, you must still verify that your instrument will have enough sensitivity for what you require. Fortunately, you don't have to spend a lot of time optimizing a protocol to prove this to yourself. When you're ready to proceed, obtain some standard compond, dilute it to the level you think you will require, and inject. You will be able to get a ballpark figure for your limit of detection whether or not you have the perfect column, oven program, etc.

I think you will be pleased with the performance of the FID.
