We have an Agilent 5977C fitted with JetClean, a system that funnels high-purity hydrogen gas directly into the source as a means of reducing matrix deposits and reducing the need for frequent source cleans. However, the JetClean system has been unused for nigh on 2 years as our tech has not been able to find a way of connecting the Hydrogen cylinder to the instrument which is plumbed with SS 1/8" Swagelok tubing.
In the UK gas is supplied in cylinders with 5/8" BSP outlets and most UK available regulators then output to 3/8" BSP. Finding adapters which reduce 3/8" BSP down to 1/8" Swagelok is not especially challenging with inert gases, but in the UK, hydrogen (and other flammable gases) are supplied with left-hand threaded cylinders and regulators. This does of course makes life much more difficult as all Swagelok parts are right-hand threaded. I have spent days trying to find a solution (it's been nagging at me for ages) and I am struggling. I have found 3/8" LH male to RH male adapters, but being brass (rather than stainless steel) and being designed for LPG is far from ideal. I have considered LH 3/8" BSP to 1/4" compression fitting, which eliminates the need to an adapter, but these don't seem to exist. I have even given AI a go, but even this keeps sending me in loops where it asks if I'd be interested in hearing about an elegant solution to the problem and then suggests a part which it later says doesn't actually exist! Does anyone human have any suggestions?
Kind Regards
R
