What is this thing for?

We have one of these. It looks like a pressure gauge attached to some fittings that end with a needle. The needle is shrouded in a spring loaded cylinder which I guess is to keep you from poking yourself (or to hid the needle so you do poke yourself, in my case). It was packaged with a headspace vial.

The description says "For convenient tightening and loosening of the screw connectors used with PTFE tubing assemblies."

I'm just curious (but not curious enough to ask PE). Anyone know?
The link has no picture, but a pressure gauge attached to a syringe needle is a handy way to check actual inlet pressure on a GC.
