The so-called 8 essential sugars are:
mannose
Fucose
N-Acetyl-D-glucosamine
Glucose
Galactose
Xylose
N-Acetyl-D-Galactosamine
N-AcetylNeuraminic Acid

I need to analyze for these sugars and have not had luck with the columns I have tried.

Shodex SC1011
Supelcogel H

Anyone actually seprated these compounds by HPLC?

Take a look here: http://www.sdk.co.jp/shodex/english/cn04.htm

They have a sc1011 that will separate 5 of them, but mannose, fucose, and xylose co-elute. I think it is the same column as the supelcogel h column.
Thanks

I note that on the metrohm web site your analytes
mannose
Fucose
Xylose
are separated using the metrosep carb1 column see the links http://www.metrohm.com/infocenter/downl ... pdf/p1.pdf
the other analytes you are interested are shown using the other link http://www.metrohm.com/infocenter/downl ... df/p16.pdf
The runs are completed isocratically, though I guess you could use a gradient if you felt you needed to.

I have been trying to analyze for all eight compounds without separating out the amine compounds. A tall order , but that is what I want due to scheduling problems later on - minimizing column changes and equilibration time. All the chromatograms I have seen do not put these eight together. I am trying to keep from spending a couple of thousand bucks for nothing, then having to do the separations.
